Temperatures this afternoon have responded with the strong gusty south winds that have taken hold across the state. Readings are well into the 70s with an 84 being reported in Denison at 3pm. Winds have been gusty all day, with sustained winds between 15-30mph with gusts over 40mph at times. In response to this, the NWS in La Crosse has issued a Wind Advisory until this evening a few counties in northern and northeastern Iowa.
There is also a risk of uncontrolled fires (if you can believe that). Red Flag Warnings are in effect in NW Iowa through this evening for that threat. Also there is Extreme Fire Danger throughout the western part of the state for the same reason, due to the strong winds and dry air that is occurring this afternoon. More of the same is expected tomorrow and Thursday as well.
