Spotty Rain Today, Mainly Dry Thereafter

THROUGH THE WEEKEND: A cold front will move into the state today bringing a chance of some showers and perhaps a thunderstorm as well. The best chances of precipitation will be over the eastern counties of the state where some development could occur during the afternoon hours. The rest of the state will be dry with some partial sunshine in the western and central counties. Highs today will be in the 70s to lower 80s for the most part. Cooler temperatures will return tonight and Friday with lows tonight dropping back into the 40s to lower 50s. Friday will see temperatures in the 60s with partly to mostly sunny skies. However the warm air will return as we head into the weekend as winds switch around to the southwest. We should easily get into the 70s both Saturday and Sunday across the state, so it should be a good weekend to head out to any football games, drive around looking at the fall color, etc.

NEXT WEEK: A cold front will come through early Monday but it should have little if any precipitation along with it. It will switch the winds to the northwest and will cool us back to seasonal levels on Monday. Tuesday will be a bit warmer with Wednesday and Thursday of next week showing temperatures fairly close to seasonal levels. Toward the end of the week, the GFS is showing a plunge of colder air coming down from Canada. This could bring us our first frost if not freeze across a large portion of the state. We’ll keep an eye on this possible development in the coming days. It does look to remain dry across the state all of next week for the time being.

EXTENDED PERIOD: Looking into the extended period, the GFS shows mainly dry weather to start out, with very little storm activity moving close to the state. Temperatures look to be below average during the period with several cold air intrusions coming in from the northwest. This pattern is shown to continue through the end of the period with little to no precipitation around. This will be good for the farmers to be able to harvest their crops and for anyone that wants to do anything outdoors over the next two weeks, however changes could occur so stay tuned.
