Iowa Weather Report September 9th 2015: Back to Normal

BREATH OF COOLER AIR: Temperatures that are more typical of early to mid-September will be seen for the next several days with even cooler air late this week and into the weekend. Today we’ll see plenty of sunshine around with readings in the 70s to around 80 for highs. Another disturbance moves through late tonight into Thursday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms at that time. Rainfall amounts look to be light with a quarter of an inch being the average for most of the state. Some areas may not get much if any rain out of this system. As the system moves away Friday into Saturday, much cooler air will come in with highs relegating back into the 60s for parts of the state with lower and middle 70s elsewhere.

INTO NEXT WEEK: Some warmer temperatures will move in as we begin a new work week with readings well into the 70s for the most part, perhaps some lower 80s as well. This will be ahead of another system that looks to move in around the middle of next week with a chance of some showers and thunderstorms at that time. Although this is just outside the next seven days so the timing and strength is still a bit of a question at this time. At this point, the best chance of seeing any precipitation from this system looks to be late next Wednesday into next Thursday. We’ll see if this timing continues in the coming days.

DOWN THE ROAD: Looking further into the future, the GFS has fairly dry weather across the area with only some glancing blows by storms as they move through the area. Another system is shown to be approaching toward the end of the period with warm temperatures ahead of it, however confidence isn’t high on this solution at least at this time.
