The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma is considering (40% probability) issuing a Severe Thunderstorm Watch or Tornado Watch for portions of south central and southeastern Nebraska, north central and northeastern Kansas, far southwestern Iowa, and northwestern Missouri for this afternoon.

Radar this afternoon in south central Nebraska is showing several clusters of storms, located near a stationary boundary extending from Russell, Kansas to east central Iowa, that are intensifying. The atmosphere across the region is relatively uncapped and somewhat favorable for the development of severe weather. The only thing of concern is a stabilizing atmosphere in the area as a result of the northwestward-moving remnants of a Mesoscale Convective System at the surface. This will be the wild card in determination over whether further intensification will occur. If development attaches to the boundary layer, strong shear, vertical veering wind profiles, and moderate instability will lead to the threat of large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado.
