Today: Sunday will start off dry with hot and humid conditions across Iowa. Highs will range today from 86 across NW Iowa to the lower 90’s across the SE half of the state. Heat indexes will be in the mid to upper 90’s so take it easy if you’re working or playing outside on Sunday. We’ll see southerly winds of 5 to 15MPH. As we get into the afternoon hours showers and thunderstorms will break out across NW Iowa with the approach of a cold front. A few of the storms could be strong with large hail and damaging winds the primary threats. Storms will increase in coverage as we enter the evening hours and should move into Central Iowa after 7PM.
Tonight: Showers and storms will be likely across Iowa tonight. A few strong storms are possible with large hail and damaging winds, but the primary threat will be for locally heavy rainfall. Some areas of the state could see 1 to 3 inches of rain. Lows will range from 63 to 71 from NW to SE.
Tomorrow: Monday will see morning storms across the SE portions of Iowa. We should see a break for the late morning and early afternoon but with the cold front hanging up across the southern half of Iowa thunderstorms are expected to breakout across the south half of Iowa during the late afternoon hours. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80’s across the south with low 80’s across the north.
Tomorrow night: Showers and storms will be likely across much of Iowa again Monday night. Locally heavy rains will once again be possible. With a 2nd night of heavy rains flash flooding could become an issue. If you run across flooded roadways turn around, don’t drown. Lows will range from 63 to the north to 70 in the far south.
The remainder of the week temperatures will be on the way down with highs in the 70’s and lows in the 50’s. We’ll see several more chances for showers and thunderstorms later in the week.
As always be weather aware and enjoy the weather because it’s the only weather we got.
