Iowa Weather Report September 4th 2015: A Labor of Heat

THE HOT HUMID WEATHER KEEPS ON COMING: Another day of hot and humid weather across the state today. Highs will make it well into the 80s and lower 90s with mostly sunny skies around. We should see the same conditions on Saturday as well. Heat indices well into the 90s will be common across the area. There is a slight chance of a shower or storm around mainly during the evening hours both today and tomorrow, but many areas will remain dry for the time being.

WASHING OUT THE HOLIDAY: The second half of the Labor Day Weekend will turn a bit wet as a cold front moves into the state. This will bring a chance of showers and storms to the western counties by Sunday and the rest of the state by late Sunday night through Labor Day Monday. With the chance of showers and storms around, readings will be a bit cooler but the humidity levels will still be high. Readings in the upper 70s through the 80s will be possible both days. Another disturbance follows on Tuesday into Wednesday next week with showers and thunderstorms at that time as well. Readings then will be closer to seasonal levels in the 70s to lower 80s for highs.

SEASONAL TIME: As we head toward the end of next week, sunshine will return with readings close to seasonal levels in the 70s to lower 80s. As we head into the extended period, another system looks to move through the state next weekend with a slight chance of showers and a few thunderstorms. Temperatures at this time look to be close to seasonal levels.

FURTHER AHEAD: Looking past next weekend, the GFS Model is showing a more active pattern as we head toward the middle of September. Several systems are shown moving through the area with chances of showers and storms at that time. Temperatures look to stay fairly close to seasonal levels give or take a few degrees. The largest is shown at the end of the model period (as was also seen yesterday as well). We’ll continue to monitor trends as we head through the weekend into early next week for this period.
