Iowa Weather Report August 30th 2015: Hot & Humid to End August

Today: Morning fog will give way to mostly sunny skies across Western Iowa to partly cloudy skies in the eastern portions of Iowa for Sunday with highs in the lower to middle 80’s. Dewpoints will be in the upper 60’s which is starting to get into the uncomfortable range so you will notice the humidity over the next several days.

Portions of the state that received heavy rainfall on Friday are experiencing flooding along several rivers and streams. Flood warning are up for portions of the Raccoon River in Dallas County. The Skunk River in Story, Polk, and Jasper County. Squaw Creek in the Ames area, and the Iowa River in Marshall County for Sunday. Be sure that if you encounter flooding that you turn around, don’t drown.

Tonight: For Sunday night we’ll see partly cloudy skies across the state with areas of fog developing after 1AM. Low will be in the mid to upper 60’s across the state.

Tomorrow: As high pressure continue to build into the midsection of the country temperatures will slowly continue to warm and the humidity will stay with us as well. Monday will be sunny and summer like with highs ranging from 85 to 89 across the region. Fog will once again be likely across many portions of the state Monday morning but will burn off by 10AM leaving us with a great looking late summer day.

Tomorrow night: Quiet weather continues across Iowa Monday night with mostly clear skies and lows ranging from 64 to 67 across the state.

Taking a peek ahead into the remainder of the work week we will see a chance for showers and thunderstorms as a disturbance passes Iowa on Tuesday night. This looks to be the best shot at precipitation for much of the upcoming week. Thursday night will need to be watched as well as several forecast models show a chance of thunderstorms late on Thursday. Details on the rain chances Thursday night and Thursday night will become clearer over the next few days.

As always be weather aware and enjoy the weather because it’s the only weather we got.
