INCREASING TEMPS AND HUMIDITY: The next three days will see plenty of sunshine across the state with a noted increase in temperatures and humidity levels. Highs today through Sunday will be in the 80s and lower 90s. With the higher humidity levels we should see heat indices well into the 90s for a large portion of the state. We still see a system approaching the state late Sunday afternoon with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in our northwestern counties at that time.

ACTIVITY ABOUNDS: The frontal system mentioned moving into the state late on Sunday looks to stall across the state through the work week with chances of showers and storms possible Monday through at least Friday across the state. There will be dry periods where some sunshine could be possible. High temperatures will be in the 80s for the most part. It’s too early to determine rainfall amounts at this time due to the uncertainty of where the storms will form and move. We’ll watch for any changes.

GOING BACK TO SCHOOL: As we look into the extended period which takes us through the first few days of school for most in the state of Iowa, the GFS continues to show a few shower or storm chances next weekend across the state, albeit the chances look to be lower than previous days. Readings look to be near seasonal levels in the lower to middle 80s or so. The rest of the period shows a few systems of note but no real consistency in timing and strength of said systems. We see no real consistency in the models regarding the temperatures with this run showing a ridge once again at the beginning of the extended period with a zonal flow toward the end. Like yesterday, don’t have much confidence past the next 7 days at this time.
