Iowa Weather Report August 13th 2015: The Dirt Dries Out

NO BIG CHANGES THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Still on course for another mostly sunny day across the state with readings well into the 80s. A system will try to squeak into the far northeastern counties late tonight into early Friday with an isolated shower or storm chance but the better chances look to stay to our north and northeast. Skies will remain mostly sunny through the weekend with readings getting into the upper 80s to lower 90s for most of the state. Another frontal system will be approaching from the northwest on Sunday that could bring some showers and thunderstorms to the northwestern counties of the state late Sunday with the rest of the state seeing some shower activity albeit isolated on Monday.

ACTIVE TIME: As we head into Tuesday through Thursday of next week, that same frontal system looks to stall over the area with several rounds of showers and thunderstorms possible. It doesn’t look to be an all day rain event by any means as there will be some breaks where we could see some sunshine around. Readings with the amount of cloudiness around will be in the lower to middle 80s for the most part. It’s too early to determine the rain amounts or the chance of severe weather at this time.

CONTINUING ONWARD: Looking into the following weekend, the weather turns drier toward the weekend however the GFS still has some chances of precipitation in the southeastern counties of the state on Saturday (the 22nd). The rest of the period is up and down with several chances of showers and thunderstorms through the period with temperatures averaging around seasonal levels although a period of cooler temperatures is noted. Confidence is still low past the seven day period however.
