THE WEEK AHEAD: A few early showers and storms over the eastern counties of the state will clear out by afternoon with some slow clearing from west to east. Highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s across the state. The sunny and cooler conditions look to last for the rest of the week with the GFS hinting at another chance of a few showers or storms late Thursday into Friday, however confidence is not high on that system at least at this time. We’ll keep watching it for you. Highs in the 70s to lower 80s look to be commonplace through at least Friday across the state.

THE WEEKEND: Another system will be approaching as we head into the weekend, the current model run suggests that the main storm will move well north of the state and would take most of the moisture along with it, however there could be a slight chance of a shower Sunday and into next Monday. Readings ahead of the system will be warmer with upper 70s through the 80s with some increase in humidity as well. A good weekend to head to the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.

LOOKING AHEAD: Beyond the next seven days, the GFS shows another system on the heels of the one that skirts the state this weekend. This could bring a slight chance of precipitation on Tuesday the 18th with a better chance on Wednesday the 19th. Readings look to be at or slightly above seasonal levels with winds out of the south and southwest bringing warmer and more humid air into the area. The GFS shows the rest of the period as quite active with numerous rounds of showers and storms moving through the state with temperatures close to seasonal levels. Confidence is still low but we’ll watch to see if this continues in future model runs.
