Iowa Weather Report August 7th 2015: A Fair Chance of Rain or No Rain

RAIN CHANCES: The GFS continues to have chances of showers and thunderstorms today through Monday across the state. However, with dry air around, some places may not get much rain at all while others get much more. It’s very difficult to pinpoint where the areas of rain will occur at this time but the chances are there nevertheless. Readings will be in the upper 70s through the middle 80s through Monday. Outside any possible rain chances, skies will be partly to mostly sunny.

COOLDOWN: Cooler and drier air will filter into the state late on Monday through at least Wednesday. We’ll likely see readings in the 70s to lower 80s for highs with lows in the 50s to lower 60s. Temperatures will increase on Thursday ahead of a storm system approaching from the west. We should see readings into the 80s on Thursday and Friday with partly to mostly sunny skies both days. There is a slight chance of some late day showers Friday night but we’ll fine tune that as we get closer.

FUN AT THE FAIR: Looking through the rest of the period, the storm system is shown to move through the state next weekend 15th and 16th. Temperatures look to be near seasonal levels. Cooler air is shown moving in from Canada after that and is shown to last through the rest of the period with some chances of showers and storms toward the end of Fair. We’ll see if this cooler pattern continues in future runs, and if so, it would be a great State Fair forecast with regards to temperatures. We’ll keep watch for any changes.
