Iowa Weather Report July 26th 2015: More Warmth Ahead

No Video Today

SHOWER AND STORM CHANCES: There is still a chance of seeing some showers and thunderstorms through at least the morning hours on Wednesday across the state. There will be some dry time around as well with some partly to mostly sunny skies. Highs today through Tuesday will be in the 80s and lower 90s across the state with heat indices approaching 100 in some areas. Rainfall amounts will generally range between a quarter to three quarters of an inch with isolated heavier totals in areas that get repeated activity.

SLIGHTLY COOLER: A front will sweep across the state early on Wednesday taking the precipitation chances off to our east. It will also lower readings back into the lower and middle 80s with lower humidity around as well. Another disturbance will track into the state late Friday and into next weekend with some chances of showers and storms once again. We’ll have more on this later this coming week.

EXTENDED PERIOD: Looking into the extended period, a trough will dig in across the Great Lakes into the northeast with a ridge setting up over the southwest once again. This would put us in a northwesterly flow that will keep disturbances moving through every few days. Along with that, temperatures will be held at or slightly below seasonal levels with some 70s and lower to middle 80s possible. One such disturbance moves through according to this model run around the 3rd and 4th of August. The flow looks to turn more zonal toward the end of the period, but confidence is not very high that far out. We’ll watch for any trends and or changes in the coming days.
