Iowa Weather Report July 16th 2015: Sweat it Out

NOT MUCH CHANGE: We don’t see a whole lot of change from what we discussed yesterday outside of some slight timing differences with regards to the systems this weekend. There will be some chances of showers and thunderstorms today, both early and again later in the day. Some of the storms could bring some heavy rainfall as well. Readings today will be held down in the 70s north and northeast through the 80s in the southern counties where they may see some sunshine in the afternoon hours. We can’t really rule out a chance of rain Friday through at least early on Sunday, but the heat and humidity will be back. Highs in the 80s and 90s with dew points in the 70s look to be commonplace on Friday and Saturday across the state. The best chance of seeing any widespread precipitation chances looks to come late Saturday night into Sunday with a system moving through that should cool readings back down as we move into next week. This model run is bringing this system in a bit earlier than previous runs so we’ll keep an eye on this as we move forward.

NEXT WEEK: The beginning of next week looks to start out with partly to mostly sunny skies and readings close to seasonal levels with 80s for the most part. Another system looks to approach the area on Wednesday that bring a slight chance of a shower or storm. This may extend into Thursday as well but the chances look remote at this time.

ENDING THE MONTH: As we look into the extended period, the ridge to our south looks to expand and bring the warmth back into the state toward the end of next week. However the jet stream looks to still be close enough that some showers and thunderstorms will be possible next Friday and Saturday with readings possibly in the 80s and lower 90s. This looks to last through the end of the month however the worst of the heat looks to stay south of the area at least according to this model run. We’ll see if anything changes in the next couple of days.
