Snow in Western Half of Iowa

Snow is currently falling in a band from near Burlington and Keokuk NW through Ottumwa to Des Moines and Ames, Fort Dodge and Boone then westward to Sioux City. The heaviest snow is falling in and around Ames-Des Moines back to between Fort Dodge and Boone. This snow is moving to the SE around an upper level feature located in eastern Nebraska this morning, which will move into Missouri by this evening. Accumulations of 1-3 inches with higher isolated totals will be possible with this system as it tracks through. The eastern and northeastern parts of the state will miss the snow today, but will get some from another system rotating in from the north and northeast later tonight into early on Monday. This will bring at least a dusting to an inch across the eastern portions of the state at that time.
With regards to the snow out west, A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued until 6pm in far NW Iowa, with other Winter Weather Advisories to the SE beginning at either 9am or Noon and expiring tomorrow morning at 6am unless cancelled earlier.

Roads are completely snow covered in and around the Des Moines area, and tow bans have been put into place for many of the interstate and highways in those areas. Take it slow if you have to travel this morning into the afternoon.

Happy Valentines Day!

UPDATE: A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 3pm for Monona, Pottawattamie, Harrison, Shelby, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont and Page Counties.
