SEVERAL CHANCES OF RAIN: There is going to be numerous chances of showers and thunderstorms through the weekend and into next week as well. Timing on these will be difficult to pinpoint, but as of now, the only time that looks to be mainly dry is Tuesday. Other than that, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms at any time between today and the middle of next week. Today’s chances look best by the afternoon hours with another disturbance approaching from the west. Highs today will be in the 70s to lower 80s across the state and the same will go for Sunday as well. Looking into next week as mentioned earlier, Tuesday looks mainly dry and perhaps a bit cooler with 70s possible (maybe some upper 60s). Rainfall amounts through the period will vary as well, however most places should see at least an inch of rain as an average. Although given what occurred a few nights ago, one storm could dump several inches of rain in a short period of time so be aware of that.
NEXT WEEKEND AND BEYOND: As we look into the extended period, the GFS is showing another system moving through the state next weekend with more showers and thunderstorms possible. Readings will be close to seasonal levels. Looking farther out, more rain is seen the following Monday and Tuesday with another disturbance moving through the area. The weather pattern looks to change as we get to the end of the period with a ridge building over the Central Plains. This would move the main storm track well north of the state and could bump temperatures up as well. Since this is the first time we’ve seen this, we’re still skeptical at this time, however we’ll watch to see if this trend continues over the next couple of days.
