The first very hot day of the season engulfed the state today, leaving traces of upper 90s across much of the area (nearly 100° in Sioux City). Storms are currently moving over the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley and may brush our far northern counties tonight. A slight cool down is expected tomorrow, however things will still remain fairly hot over the state with lower 90s south of Interstate 80:

Things will begin to get much more soggier and active as Thursday comes around. Thunderstorms is very likely for the entire state with 100% probabilities for many. Severe weather will also be possible with large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado possible. Thunderstorm chances will likely continue through the beginning of next week with another big rainfall possible on Sunday.

Flooding may be possible on area rivers and low-lying areas as nearly 4″ of rain is possible in some areas, according to the Weather Prediction Center.
