All of Iowa, Winter Weather

Warnings Trimmed

Here are the current warnings as of mid-afternoon. The NWS in Des Moines has cancelled the Ice Storm Warning, but it remains in effect in eastern Iowa at least until Thursday morning, or until it’s cancelled. A Winter Weather Advisory is still in effect in northern Iowa until Thursday morning and a Freezing Rain advisory is still in effect in extreme eastern Iowa and NE Iowa until Thursday morning. Most of the precipitation is beginning to move out of the state, with the heaviest concentration mainly along the Mississippi River in Jackson and Clinton Counties. Scattered freezing drizzle will likely continue through the rest of the evening and overnight.

In NW Iowa, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the next storm, this is in effect beginning Friday evening through late on Sunday night for Lyon and Osecola Counties. Another bout of freezing rain is expected in those counties, with amounts of a quarter of an inch or more possible, before the precipitation shifts to all snow. More watches and advisories for the second storm system will likely be coming later tonight or first thing tomorrow morning.

UPDATE: The Ice Storm Warning has been replaced by a Freezing Rain Advisory.
