IT’S GUNNA RAIN: Ollie Williams couldn’t have said it better because the chances of rain and storms are still with us for the next several days across the state. This run of the GFS is very similar to the run from yesterday at 00z which shows more shower and thunderstorm threats once again later today through at least early on Friday with some drier air possible through Saturday for most of the state outside the far southern counties before another system moves in Sunday into Monday with more precipitation at that time. There will be some sunshine in our eastern counties today that will help boost readings well into the 70s and lower 80s today while the central and western counties of the state will have a better chance of seeing showers and thunderstorms at any time during the day along with more clouds. This will keep temperatures down in the lower and middle 70s for the most part.
DRYING OUT: This active weather pattern does look to take a break late Monday and especially on Tuesday through Thursday of next week at least with readings looking to be close to seasonal levels. Any sunshine at that point after the amount of precipitation we’ve received so far and what we’re expecting to get between now and Sunday night-Monday will really help the grass and plants grow. We will have to wait and see how much rain we get as to whether we see any possible river flooding that could linger during this period. The chances are slim given that river levels have been running low for this time of year due to a drier than normal April across the area.
IN THE MIDDLE: As we look into the extended period which takes us through the middle of May, the pattern is looking a bit calmer across the area with only a weak system next Friday (15th) and a stronger system around the 17th and 18th that could bring us some precipitation. Temperatures look to be close to seasonal levels at least at this time.
