The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has confirmed that a small tornado touched down two miles east of Terril, Iowa in Dickinson County yesterday. Due to no damage found in the area, the tornado is rated EF-0 with max winds of 65 to 85 MPH.
The tornado reportedly occurred between 5:34 and 5:36 PM on Sunday evening and remained on open field according to eye witness reports and video taken by those near the area. The radar image in the featured area above was taken of the Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Clay and Dickinson at 5:36 PM. The reported tornado was just a few miles to the southwest of Estherville. The NWS also noted that this was very close to where a cold front was located at the time.

We have also received several questions about landspouts and tornadoes, and the differences between them. A landspout is basically the cousin of a tornado and is NOT associated with a supercell. Tornadoes, on the other hand, are. Landspouts typically only last a few minutes and are under 200-300 feet wide.
