5:45 PM: Storms Moving Northeast into Area; Strong to Severe Storms Possible

Strong-to-severe thunderstorms are currently moving very slowly to the northeast from the Central Plains and Mid-Mississippi Valley this evening. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for our far southwest counties of Atchison, Nodaway, Worth, and Harrison. While the severe weather threat is relatively low, some of the enhanced cells may be capable of large hail to two inches, damaging wind gusts to 70 MPH, and an isolated tornado. Caution should be exercised if you will be outside in southern Iowa tonight.
