All of Iowa, Road Conditions, Winter Weather

Very Cold Night Tonight

A cold night is in store for the state tonight. Winds will begin to diminish this evening and overnight, which will lead to very cold temperatures across the state. Lows by Saturday morning will be in the teens and 20s below zero statewide. A few locations may even drop to -30. The extreme eastern part of the state may stay in the single digits below zero. Even though winds will be greatly diminshed from what they were yesterday and earllier today, there will still be sufficient wind to generate low wind chills, thus a wind chill advisory is in effect for most of the state through Saturday morning. Wind Chills will likely be between -15 and -30 throughout the night into Saturday morning.

A few roads in western Iowa remain closed or impassable this afternoon. With diminished winds this evening, plows should be able to get out and clear those roads. Travel is not advised on a few roads in western Iowa, while the rest of the state is seeing improving conditions. However, this is only on major thoroughfares, and doesn’t necessarily mean that less traveled roads will be the same.
