Iowa Weather Report April 10th 2015: Quieting Down For A Time

No Video Today (Videos will return on Saturday)

THE WEEKEND AHEAD: A much quieter period with regards to weather with sunshine returning to the state once more today. Highs will be in the 50s north to lower 60s south. There may be a few more clouds in the northeastern counties of the state and a slight chance of a shower there. Saturday will be warmer as winds turn back around to the south again. Readings will make it well into the 60s to around 70 for most of the state. This will be ahead of storm system that looks to move into the area on Sunday with showers and thunderstorms possible. Severe weather does not look likely at this time with this system. Readings will be in the 50s and 60s on Sunday with the amount of clouds around.

MOVING INTO NEXT WEEK: The GFS is showing some rather quiet weather for a change for most of next week however, most models of late had next week to be rather active once more. This run of the GFS has only a chance of some showers and perhaps a thunderstorm Thursday into the first half of Friday. Readings will be slightly warmer than seasonal readings with 60s and 70s possible in the state. We’ll continue watching the models for any possible changes regarding next week.

LOOKING OVER THE HORIZON: As we take a look at the extended period, the GFS has a system moving through around the 20th that may bring some precipitation with that. A few more systems may move into the area around the end of the period as well but confidence is low with regards to timing and strength at this point. Readings will be within a few degrees of seasonal levels during the period, but this may also change as well.
