All of Iowa, Winter Weather

Continued Cold and More Snow!

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued beginning at 3am Wednesday morning and will expire at 6am Friday morning for the following counties, Lyon, Plymouth, Sioux and Woodbury. A Winter Weather Advisory has also been issued beginning at 6am Wednesday morning and expiring at Noon Friday for the following counties, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Ida, OBrien and Osceola. The rest of the state (except NE Iowa) is under a Winter Storm Watch beginning Wednesday morning in western Iowa and Wednesday afternoon and evening in the east. They will expire Friday morning.

Snow accumulations of 4 to as much as 8 inches will be possible from this storm. This storm doesn’t have a lot of moisture, but the snow will be very powdery, thus it doesn’t take a lot of moisture to accumulate a lot of snow. This is also the kind of snow that tends to blow around, thus blowing and drifting snow will be likely on Thursday as winds increase from the NW. Also Wind Chills will drop well below zero again and Wind Chill Advisories (I’m sure you’ve heard of them) are likely to be issued Thursday night into Friday morning.
