Winter Weather to Affect Northeast Iowa Overnight

741

As of 11:45pm, light snow was seen on radar from Estherville through Mason City, Decorah, and north of Oelwein. Heavier accumulations were seen from Postville to Oelwein. Scattered showers were also seen from Waterloo through Ottumwa and thunderstorms near Carroll and around Greenfield. Temperatures ranged from 28° at Decorah to 55° and Shenandoah, which pretty much sums up Iowa in one sentence.

Des Moines Register reporter Bryan Houlgrave captured the snow in Cresco, Iowa quite nicely:

But, seriously… lightning! As captured on our Storm Tracker from earlier this evening, near Greenfield:

This precipitation will continue pushing off to the east to southeast with the highest accumulations across the far northeast part of the state where three to six inches will be possible. A trace to three inches will be possible from near Worthington through Marshalltown, Iowa City, and Muscatine. Some ice/freezing rain/sleet will also be possible across much of the northeast, but these accumulations should remain fairly minor. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Clayton, Allamakee, Winneshiek, and Howard counties with Winter Weather Advisories for Mitchell, Chickasaw, and Fayette through this morning.

Things will be relatively chilly for most of the state with temperatures in the upper 30s in the northeast half with upper 40s and upper 50s for the southeast half.It will be enough to melt some snow, and Tuesday should help a lot too (not saying that it will be warm, however).

Enjoy your Monday!
