NOAA Weather Radio in Waterloo is Off the Air

The NOAA Weather Radio transmitter in Waterloo (WXL94) is off the air due to a communications or hardware failure, according to the National Weather Service in Des Moines. They say technicians have been notified, but there is no estimated restore time.

The NOAA Weather Radio in Waterloo broadcasts on a frequency of 162.550 MHz and services several counties in central and east central Iowa, including Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Chickasaw, Fayette, Floyd, and Grundy. Those in these areas can tune to neighboring transmitters:

  • St. Ansgar – 162.450 MHz (KXI68)
  • Decorah – 162.525 MHz (KXI60)
  • Prairie Du Chien – 162.500 MHz (WWG86)
  • Marshalltown – 162.500 MHz (KXI98)
  • Iowa Falls – 162.525 MHz (WNG666)
