Iowa Weather Report March 16th 2015: Very Warm Today; Seasonal Rest of Week

DRY WEEK AHEAD: Very warm temperatures will begin the week with seasonal temperatures thereafter for the rest of the week. Today it will be partly to mostly sunny and very warm. Highs today will be in the upper 60s north to the lower 80s in the south and western counties of the state. There is still an increased risk of wildfires in the state mainly over the southern and western counties where dew points have been quite low. A cold front will come through tonight and switch the winds around to the northwest later tonight into Tuesday. It will also drop readings back into the 40s and 50s for highs on Tuesday. Lows will be back in the upper 20s through the 30s as well. This looks to last the rest of the week with skies remaining partly to mostly sunny through Friday.

WEEKEND: A disturbance with very little moisture if any looks to move through Friday night into Saturday morning. It may bring a few more clouds but that would be about it. It looks to keep temperatures down at or slightly below seasonal levels for this upcoming weekend, however it still will be wonderful to be outside even if the temperature will be 20-35° cooler than it was Sunday and will be today. Skies look to remain partly to mostly sunny.

LOOKING AHEAD: Looking into the extended period which takes us through the rest of the month of March, the pattern looks to get active again as we head into next week with the GFS showing a system moving through with some precipitation next Monday through Wednesday across the state. This looks to be the next best chance for any precipitation in the state at this time. It looks calmer toward the end of the month with temperatures looking to be fairly close to seasonal levels for the last week or so of March. There still could be some changes in the coming days, but as of now, the warmest day for the rest of March looks to be today.
