All of Iowa, Wind Chill Advisory

Dangerous Wind Chills Tonight

The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for the eastern counties of the state from later tonight (Midnight in the north, 3am in south) until 9am Friday Morning. Wind Chill values of 20-25 below zero will be possible in these areas with actual temperatures falling into the 6 and 16 below zero in these areas. This will lead to frostbite occurring within 15-30 minutes on exposed skin. The rest of the state will also see bitterly cold temperatures but the winds will be light enough where the wind chills will be fairly close to the actual temperatures, however a slight breeze may bring wind chills down under -20 in some areas especially in central, north central and northeast Iowa, however the wind will not be constant thus no advisory has been issued. This will be the first of two nights where we will see bitterly cold temperatures as tomorrow night will be cold as well but winds will be lighter, and in some areas, temperatures will be a bit warmer although still remaining well below zero.
