Light to Moderate snow continues to move across the state at this hour with the heaviest snow moving through the central counties of the state at this time. Road conditions in the northern half of the state have become partly to completely covered in snow and these will continue to deteriorate as we move into the afternoon hours across most of the state (except far southwestern Iowa, where snow will be much lighter).
The National Weather Service updated their advisories and warnings earlier this morning and shifted them eastward. There has been a eastward track with the heaviest snow band over the last few hours so this was expected. Winter Storm Warnings now extend for a large portion of the state with Winter Weather Advisories surrounding that for most of the state except far southwest Iowa and far northeastern Iowa as well. Snow amounts are now expected to be in the 6-10″ range in a swath from northwestern through central into southeast Iowa before the storm moves out later tonight. Some isolated heavier totals are possible in this area as well. Lighter amounts will be seen on either side of that. Travel will be highly discouraged throughout the rest of the day and if you are going to be out, take it slow.
