Christmas Week Storm 2009: Wed Morning Update

Here is a quick update to what has been issued this morning.

In SW Iowa, A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until Noon for Fremont, Mills, Montgomery and Page Counties. Then at Midnight tonight, those counties go under a Winter Storm Watch which will be in effect until 6am Saturday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until Midnight tonight for Harrison, Monona, Pottawattamie and Shelby counties, then those counties are under a Winter Storm Watch until 6am Saturday morning.

In NW Iowa, A Winter Storm Warning goes into effect at 3pm this afternoon and will be in effect until 6am Saturday morning for Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Ida, Lyon, OBrien, Osceola, Plymouth, Sioux and Woodbury counties. This is where snow amounts could exceed one foot and may approach 18 inches or more in some isolated locations.

In Central Iowa, A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 3pm this afternoon for the following counties, Bremer, Butler, Calhoun, Carroll, Cerro Gordo, Crawford, Emmet, Franklin, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Sac, Webster, Winnebago, Worth, Wright, Adams, Clarke, Jasper, Union, Warren, Lucas, Mahaska, Marion and Poweshiek. And until Midnight tonight for the following counties, Adair, Audubon, Black Hawk, Boone, Cass, Dallas, Grundy, Guthrie, Hardin, Marshall, Polk, Story, Tama and Madison. A Winter Storm Warning will go into effect at 3pm this afternoon and be in effect until Midnight Saturday morning for the following counties, Bremer, Butler, Calhoun, Carroll, Cerro Gordo, Crawford, Emmet, Franklin, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Sac, Webster, Winnebago, Worth and Wright. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect beginning at Noon on Thursday and will be in effect until Midnight Saturday morning for the following counties, Adair, Audubon, Black Hawk, Boone, Cass, Dallas, Grundy, Guthrie, Hardin, Marshall, Polk, Story, Tama, Madison, Decatur, Ringgold, Taylor, Adams, Clarke, Jasper, Union, Warren, Lucas, Mahaska, Marion and Poweshiek.

In NE Iowa, A freezing Rain advisory is in effect until 3pm this afternoon for Allamakee, Chickasaw, Clayton, Fayette, Floyd, Howard, Mitchell and Winneshiek counties. Then at 3pm, those counties then go under a Winter Storm Warning which is in effect until 6pm Christmas Evening. Snow amounts of 4-10 inches possible with some ice accumulations of a tenth of an inch or less.

In EC and SE Iowa, A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6pm this evening for Cedar, Clinton, Iowa, Johnson, Muscatine and Scott counties. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6am Thursday morning for Benton, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Jackson, Jones, and Linn counties. A Flood Watch goes into effect at Noon today and is in effect until 6am Christmas Morning for the following counties, Cedar, Clinton, Des Moines, Henry, Iowa, Jefferson, Johnson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren, and Washington. A Flood Watch is also in effect beginning at 6am Thursday morning and will be in effect until 6am Christmas morning for Benton, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Jackson, Jones and Linn. Also Benton, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Jackson, Jones and Linn counties are under a Winter Storm Watch which goes into effect at 6pm Thursday evening and will be in effect until 6pm Friday evening as well. This part of the state is likely to see a quarter of an inch of ice, 1 to as much as 2 inches of rain, and at the end of the event, about 3-6 inches of snow.

More changes and upgrades are likely to come later this morning and into the afternoon.
