A FEW MORE WARM DAYS: The week will start out with some warm days with readings in the 30s and 40s across the state. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny today with more clouds around on Tuesday ahead of the cold front. The cold front will move through late Tuesday night into Wednesday. This will bring some snow and wintry mix to the area. There could be some travel issues but any accumulations will be light.
COLD TIME: The rest of the week and into the weekend will be much cooler with readings in the 20s and perhaps some upper teens for highs in the northeastern counties of the state. Temperatures in the southwestern counties may sneak into the 30s. There looks to be another reinforcing shot of cold air Friday into Saturday that could bring a few snow flurries mainly for the northeastern counties of the state. It all depends on if skies are clear and winds are calm as to whether we could see sub-zero readings in the morning hours especially on Sunday.
EXTENDED PERIOD: Looking into the extended period, the GFS is showing a storm early next week (mainly Monday and Tuesday) moving across the area. This would likely be the next significant system in the forecast. It is just beyond the seven day period and will need to be watched closely. Looking farther along, temperatures look to remain below seasonal levels through the end of the period, however the pattern looks to be a bit less active following the possible system early next week. We have plenty of time to watch for any changes that may be in store. The main word will be cold for the next two weeks.
