Snowstorm Cumming, IA 2/1/15

Morning Update: Here in Cumming just SW of Des Moines we have gotten 8″ of wet heavy snow causing tree branches to break. Evergreens are getting the worst. Snowfall totals are ranging from 8-10″ so far in Central Iowa including the Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and Davenport metro areas to 4-5″ in the northern and southern part of the state. Currently snow is continuing to fall across the state and downstream of into Nebraska which means it will continue for some time today, but it will be lighter in intensity then it was last night. Strong winds and colder air are starting to be pulled into the storm, already winds are gusting to 40MPH in Storm Lake and across Nebraska. These winds will move eastward and snow that can be picked up will blow and drift. Road conditions are not the best. Travel is not recommended as all roads are snowcovered and slippery. Travel where roads have not yet been plowed is not very easy to impossible. Also take note this snow is very wet and heavy! So if you are shoveling by hand be careful and take lots of breaks.
