8:00 PM: Roads Completely Covered for Western Two-Thirds of State

Snow has overspread most of the state at this time. The only exception is southeastern Iowa where roads are still in decent shape however the precipitation will be changing over to snow in those areas in the coming hours. The rest of the state is seeing partly to completely covered roads in snow, slush and some ice. Fremont, Mills, Adair and Cass Counties are now under Tow Bans at this time so travel is becoming hazardous across a large portion of the state. The heaviest snowfall accumulations will be taking place over the next 12 hours or so with some places seeing snowfall rates at or over 1″ per hour. Winds will begin to increase later on tonight which will cause some blowing and drifting snow as well, especially in open rural areas. If you have to be out tonight, be sure to take your time and drive carefully. The best advice would be to stay home tonight and on Sunday as well.
