Iowa Weather Report January 11th 2015: A Short Blast

BRUSH WITH SNOW, MORE COLD AIR: A storm system will move just to the south and southeast of the state but it will be close enough to bring some light snow to the far southeastern counties of the state. Some light accumulation of an inch or less is possible southeast of a line from Bloomfield to the Quad Cities. The rest of the state may see some flurries with no accumulation along with plenty of clouds. Highs today will be in the upper teens in the northwestern counties where some sunshine may peak through with 20s elsewhere. Another dump of cold air from the north and northwest will move in as we begin a new work week with readings falling back into the single digits and teens for highs and lows back below zero for quite a bit of the state Monday night into Tuesday morning. Readings will begin to recover back toward seasonal levels toward the middle to end of next week.

EXTENDED PERIOD: Nothing to really to talk about a we look into the extended period at this point. We’ll watch another possible blast of arctic air come in toward the end of the period and perhaps a system that could affect the state as well. Confidence passed the seven day period at this point is rather low.
