CLOUDS, SOME SUN, SLIGHT SNOW CHANCE: The rest of the week and into the weekend still looks rather quiet for most of the state. There is a disturbance that will move just to the south of the state late tonight into Thursday that may skirt the southern and southwestern counties of the state with some light snow. The system will be dissipating as it moves off to the east so any accumulations will be over the southwestern counties where a half inch is possible if that. Highs today will be in the middle to upper 20s north to the lower 30s south both today and Thursday. We will see readings a degree or two warmer each day through the weekend. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy but we can’t rule out any places that may see mostly sunny skies around for brief periods.
THE WEEK OF CHRISTMAS: The next system that looks to effect the whole state will move in Monday of next week. This would bring some light snow at that time. What it will also bring is much colder air that looks to last through the rest of next week including Christmas. This run of the GFS shows the system moving to our east and stalling out over the Great Lakes which could keep the chance of some light snow going through Christmas Eve for at least the eastern or northeastern counties of the state. It would also keep the winds up which will lead to the wind chills going down. We have plenty of time to watch this in the coming days so stay tuned.
HEADING TOWARD NEW YEARS: Looking toward the end of the year and the beginning of the new one, the pattern becomes quiet again but remains rather chilly. Several shots of reinforcing cold look to continue through the end of the year with perhaps some moderation heading into the New Year. We have seem several different things over the last few days this far out so our confidence past about Christmas Day is rather low at this time. We’ll watch for any trends.
