A QUIET WEEK IN STORE: Quiet weather and seasonal temperatures look to be in store for the rest of the week and into the weekend. This run has squashed any chances of precipitation later in the week with a system that will be moving farther south than earlier runs. We may see an increase in cloudiness in the far southern counties Thursday and perhaps even Saturday, otherwise partly to mostly sunny skies will be common across the state outside of today where clouds will be slow to break up with the departing system off to our east. Highs today will be in the 20s and 30s with readings hitting their highs during the morning hours in the eastern counties with falling temperatures throughout the day. Those readings in the 20s and 30s look to continue for the rest of the week as well.
THE SYSTEM TRAIN: As we look at the extended period which takes us right to New Year’s Eve, a system is forecast to move into the state late Monday night into next Tuesday with some snow for the state. This would likely bring most of us our White Christmas. It’s still too early to determine amounts at this time. It also looks to start a trend of systems every couple of days with reinforcing shots of arctic air following them. Readings during this period will be below seasonal levels and depending on the amount of snow we may get during the period and any nights we get calmer winds, we could also see temperatures at or below zero once again. We have been seeing this arctic like trend over the last few days and there doesn’t look like there’s any changes to that thinking at least at this time. We’ll watch for any changes in the coming days however.
