We have received our 1st accumulating snowfall of the season yesterday into this morning here in central and south central Iowa. The snowfall is thanks to a system that spread a large band of snow spanning across a large area from southern Minnesota to northern Missouri. This snow is ahead of an area of very cold temperatures expected to push in tomorrow, plunging highs into the teens and lows approaching zero. Just to give thought at how cold that is for this time of year and to remind residents the average high is 48.F for Des Moines this time of year. Snow spread in from the west and started around 12:30pm in the Des Moines area. Snowfall totals were generally between 1.50 to 3″ in spots. There were multiple road incidents due of the nature of the snow and because it was our first.
