MORE COLD AIR: The storm that brought us the snow on Saturday will be moving off to the east today. It will be bringing down more cold air into the state. With the snowpack on the ground, this will drop temperature substantially across the state. Highs today will still be in the upper teens to middle and upper 20s but readings will start to slowly fall as we get toward the afternoon hours. As we head into Monday, the temperatures are expected to really bottom out with regards to the highs. Readings remaining in the teens will be common across the state. There is a chance of some flurries as well mainly over the northern and northeastern counties of the state but nothing to worry about. Lows Monday night into Tuesday morning will really tumble into the single digits above and below zero. The best chances of seeing sub-zero readings would be over northern and northwestern Iowa. Wind Chills will easily drop below zero during the day Monday and into Monday night and Tuesday as well.
SLOWLY WARMING: Readings will make a slow recovery as we move through the new work week with readings recovering into the 20s by Tuesday and Wednesday and perhaps seeing 30s by the end of the week. During that time, a system may clip the state on Wednesday with some flurries in the northeastern counties of the state. Otherwise skies will be partly to mostly sunny around the state for the week.
HEADING TOWARD TURKEY TIME: Looking at the extended period, a system may approach the state next weekend and could last through the following Tuesday. A plethora of precipitation is possible with this system but it’s still too far out to pinpoint at this time (although next weekend is within range). Thereafter, the GFS shows a few systems quickly moving through from the west with some precipitation with readings look to be near to a bit below seasonal levels for the end of November.
