Winter Hits Like a Brick for Iowa Next Week

Skies today were mostly cloudy with high temperatures reaching the 50s for the majority of the state. There was some light precipitation and snow showers in our far north counties, but nothing accumulative was noted as of 3:30 PM or so this afternoon. Temperatures overnight are expected to be in the 30s with a cool down expected to begin on Monday. A cold front will move into the area tomorrow afternoon and keep a fairly general fall day with highs in the 40s and 50s for the state. As this front moves through, accumulative snow chances will increase and winds should pickup into the 20-30 MPH range with gusts potentially greater than 35-40 MPH. In the map above, you can see the farther north  you are, the greater chance of snow you will have. While northern Iowa will only get the one to three inch bunch of the system (if you live in Iowa, you’re used to this), Minnesota may see much more with 10-14 inches possible around the Twin Cities, and much more off in Wisconsin. As this front continues to pass by, mid-winter temperatures will stick around for the short term with 20s and 30s for high temperatures and single digits and teens for low temperatures sticking around for this week at the very least.
