Rainy Monday Transitions to a Calm Tuesday; Chances of Snow Next Week

524

A mild and gloomy day was seen across the state today with high temperatures in the 60s for the majority of the state and overcast and rainy conditions for some. Rainfall amounts have generally been light, under a quarter of an inch. Chances of showers and thunderstorms will continue through this evening before dropping out overnight as a weak disturbance treks it’s way into the state. Skies should eventually clear out overnight for most of those in the west two-thirds of the state with considerable cloudiness to the east. This cloudiness should help keep low temperatures tonight in these areas warm with 50° forecasted for both the Quad Cities and Burlington. Elsewhere, 30s can be expected.

As a large cold front extending from Ontario all the way through north central Mexico sweeps it’s way out of the state, weather should become more tranquil Tuesday. Partly cloudy skies can be expected for nearly the entire state with high temperatures in the mid to upper 50s and low 60s. Another upper level disturbance will drop into the region on Wednesday, being the issuing party for more precipitation chances and cooler air. Any showers associated with this system should be minor and not have too much of an impact, however, as some temperatures cool near the freezing point on Wednesday night, a slight chance of a wintry mix will be possible.

A surge of arctic air is expected to plunge down through the area next week and offer many chances for precipitation. Models have been a bit inconsistent with the precipitation, so we won’t say anything for sure, but we may have multiple chances for some snow in the beginning of next week. To go along with this, potential 20s for morning temperatures. The beginning of Iowa winter, if you want to call it that. This event doesn’t look too major and there are still some wild cards involved but we will continue to watch.
