CONTINUED WARM: Today and Monday will still be warm across the state with readings at least 10 degrees above seasonal levels for the end of September. Highs will be in the upper 70s to middle 80s with mainly sunny skies around. Tuesday will bring some increase in clouds as a storm will be approaching from the west. We could see some isolated showers and storms fire in our western counties by Tuesday afternoon while the rest of the state should remain mainly dry.
SLOW MOVING SYSTEM: The next system will slowly move through the state from late Tuesday through Friday with periods of showers and thunderstorms. This will not be all-day rains at least at this time, but rain could be possible at any time during this period. Readings should be a bit cooler with 70s possible as skies are expected to remain mostly cloudy outside any rain chances. Cooler air will sweep into the state late Thursday into early on Friday which will end the warmer than normal readings across the state as we head into the following weekend.
NEXT WEEKEND AND BEYOND: Skies will be partly to mostly sunny next weekend but it will be noticeably cooler than this weekend with readings mainly in the 60s to around 70 for highs. Heading into the extended period, the GFS shows a drastic pattern change with Canadian air sweeping southward in two batches, one around the 9th and 10th and the other around the 12th and 13th. This would bring much colder air to the area where we could see the first widespread frost of the season if this were to occur. We have seen some hints of much colder air during this period, but the timing of such cold air intrusions is still up for debate at this time. We’ll watch for any trends on the timing of this, in the coming days.
