The Storm Prediction Center has put out a Mesoscale discussion across a large portion of the state mainly in the northern through the western counties of the state. A Mesoscale discussion is what the SPC uses to denote where severe weather or any other significant weather may occur in the coming hours. In this case, they are looking at this area for a possible severe weather watch likely before 4pm this afternoon. The storms are expected to begin developing and moving to the east or northeast. These storms could be capable of large hail, possibly Golf Ball sized or larger, winds greater than 60mph and some isolated tornadoes. The tornado risk looks to only last for the first couple of hours after development before the storms merge into a squall line and move quickly to the east. The severe weather threat will begin to wane slowly past sunset. Make sure you are aware of your surroundings and have a source of weather information handy as watches and warnings are likely to be issued later today. Make sure to let friends that may not be paying attention to the weather know what may be on the way.
