Severe Weather Possible Over NW Iowa Later Today

1318

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe weather for today into tonight for the northwestern corner of the state. Cities included in the slight risk area would be Sioux City, Spencer, Estherville, Emmetsburg, Algona, Spirit Lake and Storm Lake. The main threats would be from large hail and damaging straight line winds. We can’t rule out an isolated tornado with any of the storms, but the best chances of seeing that look to remain over eastern South Dakota.

Storms will begin to develop over eastern South Dakota this afternoon and move east to southeast through southwestern Minnesota and northwestern Iowa into the evening. These storms are likely to weaken below severe weather limits by the late evening hours as the result of the loss of daytime heating. This complex will continue moving through the state during the overnight hours but they should remain below severe weather limits as they do so. Stay with Iowa Weather Network for any updates on this possible event.
