Iowa Weather Report August 19th 2014

RAIN AND SUN: The weather pattern looks rainy and sunny through the week into the first part of the weekend. Several chances of showers and thunderstorms will be out there but most places will see some sunshine around as well. The best chances of seeing precipitation across the state look to be late tonight into early Wednesday, Wednesday night into Thursday morning and Friday into early Saturday. Will there be rain in all areas of the state at these times, no. However we can’t rule out shower and thunderstorm chances during those times listed. Otherwise we will see plenty of sunshine around with readings in the 80s and lower 90s. There will be a noticeable increase in humidity which we’ve seen the last few days. This will lead to heat indices well into the 90s on some days in some areas.

RAIN INCREASING: More shower and thunderstorm chances are possible as we head into Sunday through next Tuesday with a frontal system that will be moving through the area. This will not be an all-day rain by any means with some sunshine around as well. Readings will be in the 80s to near 90 depending on the amount of sunshine we will receive during the day.

FARTHER OUT: The GFS shows some shower and thunderstorm chances through the period with some systems moving through. We see no real trends developing at this point as we head toward the end of August and into the month of September but the we’ll keep watching in the coming days.
