THE WEEKEND: Some showers and thunderstorms are possible today across mainly in the eastern counties of the state during the morning and afternoon hours. Sunshine will be returning over the west. Highs will vary from the upper 70s in northeast Iowa to the lower and middle 90s in the southwest. A few isolated showers and storms are possible in the eastern counties tonight but they shouldn’t last too long. Lows will be in the middle 60s to middle 70s. It will also be quite humid. Saturday will also feature high humidity with readings well into the 80s and lower 90s. More chances of showers and storms are possible as well mainly in the late afternoon into the evening over the southern half of the state. Sunday will see some early day rain followed by clearing skies and readings dropping back into the upper 70s to lower 80s with drier air coming in as well.

AHEAD TO NEXT WEEK: Next week will feature readings below seasonal levels for this time of year. Highs in the 70s to lower 80s will be commonplace throughout the week. There could be a chance of some precipitation Thursday and Friday but at this point we’ll have to wait to see on that. Most days will feature partly to mostly sunny skies with more clouds in the afternoon due to the cold air aloft and daytime heating.

COMING INTO AUGUST: The trough over the east looks to continue for the first few days of August before the flow turns more zonal. Readings look to stay below seasonal levels before moderating to normal toward the end of the period. There will be some chances of storms around but nothing too organized at this point to worry about.
