FIREWORKS LOOM: Another quiet and cool day across the state today, but not as cold as it was yesterday where most places didn’t make it out of the 60s. Today the sun will reappear with some afternoon clouds as readings will make it back into the 70s with some lower 80s possible in western Iowa. Humidity levels will remain reasonable so it will be a good day to head outside albeit many rivers are still in flood and some places are still cleaning up from the storms this past weekend and Monday. As we head into the 4th on Friday, readings will be in the upper 70s to middle 80s with higher humidity. With the higher humidity will come the risk of showers and thunderstorms once again. These will be mainly in the western counties during the afternoon and statewide during the overnight hours. Most places in the eastern counties especially should be able to have their firework displays before the storms move in while the rest of the state may have to dodge the activity. Unfortunately the rain will return periodically through the weekend and into next week as readings rise into the 80s. This will be similar to what we had last week where some areas may get repeated rains and others may get rain every other day. Some of the rainfall could be heavy which will likely lead to more flash flooding and more flooding on area rivers. Severe weather could be possible with any of these storms but it’s still too early to determine that at this time, but we’ll have a better grasp on that in the coming days if this risk were to increase.
ANOTHER BREAK: A short break in the rain looks to come around the middle of next week before a warm front approaches toward the end of next week which may bring more showers and storms at that time followed by much warmer weather. However that is heading into the extended period so this may change in the coming days. Farther out there is no real trends developing at this point with a ridge taking hold sending most of the shower and thunderstorm chances to our north. If this were to occur, we would see readings well into the 80s and even 90s. The ridge would set up through the rest of the period which would go through the middle of the month.
NOTE: There will be no Weather Reports until Sunday due to the Holiday. If severe weather were to loom, we will resume posts at that time if the risk is warranted.
