All of Iowa, Tropical

Sunday Notes

Large batch of light to moderate rain is moving through southeast Iowa this morning. Most rainfall amounts were under 1/2-3/4 of an inch with isolated heavier totals such as Cedar Rapids which has recieved over 1.3 inches so far today.

The Severe Weather risk has been taken out of the state as a result of all the rainfall that has occurred overnight into this morning. There will be some thunderstorms that will likely refire this afternoon, but they will likely not be severe (although expect the unexpected)

TROPICS: Within 2 days, storms are just developing all across the Atlantic basin. Ana, a minimal tropical storm will move over the northern Leewards tonight as it continues racing westward at 23mph (fast for a tropical system) It doesn’t have much to show for it.
Bill, is about 1000 miles east of Ana, and this one has a lot to show for it. A 60mph Tropical Storm. This storm has the capability of becoming a hurricane as early as tonight or tomorrow and could become a major hurricane in a few days. The track will tend to take it toward the east coast, but a trough moving in, will likely recurve the storm out to sea, before reaching the coast.
TD4 (Claudette), TD 4 formed this morning over the eastern Gulf, This is the closest storm and may have an impact on Iowa’s weather with the current system over the state likely slowing down to let TD4 or Claudette move northward and then recurve to the northeast. There will be no impact directly from this storm to the state as the remnant center will be well east of the state.
