BOTTOMS UP: A cold front will be moving through the state this morning with a slight chance of seeing a shower or thunderstorm along it. The best chance will be in the eastern counties of the state but some places may get by with no precipitation at all. The sun will return by the afternoon across the state with readings mainly in the upper 60s north through the 70s elsewhere. Tonight will likely be the coolest night for a while with readings dropping into the upper 40s to lower and middle 50s across the state. Friday will bring partly to mostly sunny skies around with readings a few degrees warmer, mainly in the 70s.
WEEKEND SYSTEM: The next system will move into the state late Friday through the day on Saturday into the first half of Sunday. This will bring showers and thunderstorms to the state. Severe weather is possible but the risk area is still yet to be determined at this point. Readings on Saturday and Sunday will be back into the 80s with higher dew points as well. There will be some sunshine outside of the precipitation chances as well.
MORE STORM CHANCES: Most of the day on Monday will be quiet with partly to mostly sunny skies, however temperatures will still be in the lower to middle 80s with some humidity around. The frontal system that will move through on Sunday will begin to lift back northward late Monday night bringing more chances of showers and thunderstorms by Monday night across the state. This could be in the form of an MCS, but it’s too early to determine that at this time. We will have to keep watching for any trends in the coming days regarding this possibility. After this, we could see repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms mainly during the overnight and morning hours across the state with some sunshine breaking through by the afternoon hours. This could be the case Tuesday into Wednesday before the system looks to move far enough away late Wednesday night that will get some quieter weather toward the end of next week. We have seen some variations where the front may stick around a little longer, but we’ll have to wait to see if we can get some concrete evidence on when it may get out of here.
HEADING INTO ACTUAL SUMMER: Going into the extended period, temperatures should start out a bit below seasonal levels as a ridge begins forming to our west. This will keep much of the heat off in the Plains while we enjoy readings in the 70s and lower 80s for highs. The ridge looks to make a run at the state for a day or two which may bring some warmer weather to the state at that time. The pattern then becomes zonal once again which may lead to a progression of storms, but we’ll watch for any trends on that in the coming days.
