All of Iowa, Forecast

Iowa Weather Report May 28th 2014

A SHORT BREAK: We will have another day of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon hours. This will mainly be in the eastern half of the state although any part of the state could get in on some activity. Any storm that moves through could bring some brief heavy rains and perhaps some small hail and gusty winds although severe weather is not expected at this point. This will be followed on Thursday and Friday by some sunshine and drier weather with readings still remaining in the upper 70s through the middle 80s today through Friday. The far southern counties could still see some isolated activity both days but many areas will remain dry.

WEEKEND ACTIVITY: The next storm will approach from the west as we head into the weekend. This will bring the chances of showers and thunderstorms back as well. On Saturday the best chances will be in the western half of the state with readings still in the upper 70s to lower and middle 80s across the state. The entire state gets some shower and thunderstorm chances on Sunday as the storm moves closer. Severe weather is possible both days but it’s still too early to determine exact threats at this point. Some of the storms may also bring heavy rainfall as well which may lead to some localized flooding.

INTO NEXT WEEK: The active weather pattern of this coming weekend looks to last into the beginning of next week as well with a chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday. Severe weather is possible but as mentioned earlier, it’s still too early to determine the risk at this time. Readings will be in the 70s and 80s for highs across the state.

LOOKING BEYOND: The GFS Model is continuing to show a fairly active period as we move further into the month of June. Readings look to be near seasonal levels in the 70s and 80s with perhaps some cooler weather toward the end of the period. We would need a few more days to see if we see any organization with these systems, until then we have little confidence in this run past seven days at this time.
