All of Iowa

Hot Weekend

The hottest weather of the year will be felt today and tomorrow with highs in the lower to middle 90s across the state. At midday there were a few pesky showers located generally along US Hwy 30 from near Belle Plaine eastward. These won’t amount to much and likely will not keep the temperatures from rising into the 90s this afternoon. There is a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight mainly north of a line from Sioux City to Guttenberg. The main threats will be large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. The greatest threat of severe weather however will likely stay just north of the state, along the Interstate 90 corridor in southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, but a few of the storms may drift into the extreme northern parts of Iowa this afternoon and evening.

Another hot day is in store Sunday, with highs back in the 90s. A cold front is forecast to move into the state in the afternoon, with another chance of severe weather possible as the entire state is under a slight risk for severe weather Sunday afternoon into the evening. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats with an isolated tornado not to be ruled out. Slightly cooler air will move in for the beginning of next week.
