Iowa Weather Report May 14th 2014

COOL AND UNSETTLED: Cool temperatures and some showery weather are in the forecast along with some sunshine as well with highs in the 50s and lower to middle 60s today cooling into the 50s to near 60 on Thursday with a chance of showers here and there mainly in the afternoon hours during peak heating. This will also occur on Friday as well with cold air aloft and some sunshine may bring another chance of an afternoon shower or perhaps storm around. Readings on Friday will be in the 50s and 60s across the state.

WEEKEND: Mostly sunny skies will be across the state both Saturday and Sunday with readings in the upper 50s to middle 60s on Saturday warming about 5 degrees more on Sunday across the state. Clouds will be on the increase by Sunday evening ahead of the next storm which may bring some chance of showers and thunderstorms by Monday.

INTO NEXT WEEK THROUGH MEMORIAL DAY: A frontal system will stall over the area through the middle of the week which may bring some chances of showers and thunderstorms to the state. There is no real support of any severe weather at this time but we’ll watch for any changes in that in the coming days. Highs will be near seasonal levels once again with upper 60s north to middle and upper 70s south. There will be some dry period in between any shower chances and some sunshine is possible as well. Heading into the extended period the unsettled weather pattern looks to continue through at least part of the Memorial Day Weekend with some chances of showers and thunderstorms. Readings look to be near seasonal levels for the end of May at this point but that might change. Toward the end of the period the model is showing a quieter period with some dry conditions. We also see with this model run that severe weather looks very unlikely at least at this point, but like everything else this far out, it may and likely will change in the coming days.
